چکیده
Objective: To investigate the effects of two well known antihypertensive drugs captopril and amlodipine on serum uric acid level in type 2 diabetic hypertensive patients. Methods: One hundred hypertensive type 2 diabetic patients were divided into two groups, with 50 patients in each group. Group 1 was given captopril and group 2 amlodipine. A control group was included. Blood pressure and uric acid level were measured before and after drug administration. Results: A significantly higher levels of uric acid were found in the diabetic hypertensive patients as compared with control group. A significant drop of uric acid was noted after treatment with both captopril and amlodipine. Reduction of uric acid after therapy with captopril (49.9±30.34) and amlodipine (31.4±30.1) showed significant difference (P<0.005). Conclusions: This study demonstrates significantly higher serum uric acid concentrations in type 2 diabetic hypertensive patients. Both captopril and amlodipine therapy produced a fall in serum uric acid level. They can be useful therapeutic agents to control blood pressure and to reduce serum uric acid level in type 2 diabetic hypertensive patients with hyperuricaemia. (Rawal Med J 2008;33:50-53).

متن کاملEvaluation of Serum Uric Acid and Glutathione Levels in Diabetic Patients and Healthy Subjects
Objective: It is well known that diabetes is one of the main health challenges. According to the evidence presented in recent years by investigators, serum uric acid has emerged as a possible risk factor for diabetes mellitus. The aim of the present study was to compare the mean serum uric acid and the antioxidant activity of glutathione levels in patients with diabetes and the control group. ...
متن کاملEffects of Cilnidipine on Heart Rate and Uric Acid Metabolism in Patients With Essential Hypertension
BACKGROUND The relation between hypertension and hyperuricemia has been established by epidemiological studies. Calcium channel blockers are one of the first-line drugs for newly diagnosed patients with essential hypertension. Cilnidipine is a new calcium channel blocker acting by blocking both L- and N-type calcium channels. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of amlodipine ...

Abstract Objective: It has been reported that adenosine deaminase (ADA) is a good marker for insulin function but its clinical significance in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is not yet characterized. This study aims to assess the association of ADA with glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and uric acid (UA) in T2DM patients. Materials and Methods: The study population consisted of 120 subjects divi...
